Santa Marianita Ecuador

Ecuador’s second most populated city, is the coastal community of Santa Marianita, a stunning tropical paradise where you can find less populated beaches with a more relaxed laid back vibe. Santa Marianita, or “Playa Bonita” as the locals call it, is a popular weekend getaway among local residents who wish to get away from the more populous cities like Manta and its often crowded public beaches.

Santa Marianita is also popular among international tourists – especially those from the United States due to the fact that the currency used here is the American dollar and the fact that locals are genuinely nice, friendly and generally accommodating. Just imagine how relaxing and interesting it is to live in this beautiful town, most especially now that the country is quickly developing. More and more tourists are coming in each year, and more investors are banking on the fact that coastal towns such as Santa Marianita have a huge potential as the country’s popularity as a retirement community continues to grow and spread internationally. In fact, Forbes magazine placed Ecuador at the 2nd top spot in their 2014 list of popular international retirement destinations.

Things to Do

Kite surfing is a popular water sport in Playa Bonita. Along its 300-meter-wide beaches you’ll find kite schools that are certified by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO). They offer classes for those interested in exploring this highly addictive sport which is very popular in the area. Santa Marianita’s 4-kilometer sandy beach is a great training ground most especially for beginners.

If you wish to see migrating humpback whales, visit Playa Bonita between June and August and have a memorable experience watching these gentle giants make their way through the Pacific Ocean, making a pit stop in this beautiful coastal town before they head on their way.
